The set features 81 timeshifted “pre-prints”, i.e. cards that have not been printed before but may appear in a future set, also known as

It introduced 81 "futureshifted" cards, each of which was an anticipation of a possible future mechanic, or intended to test new mechanics and see whether they were worth keeping around. It was meant as a peek into the future of Magic, since most of those cards had gimmicks that were further expanded on in later sets. The design of the Future Sight timeshifted card frames is splashy, but also utilitarian. Their form follows function to a surprising degree. For example, you can read the mana cost of the “futureshifted” cards instantly when you have them fanned out (at least if you fan them in one direction—sorry, lefties). And you can even tell their card types. Future sight had futureshifted cards such as [[tarmogoyf]], which have a very strange border as you noticed. They are supposed to be cards from the future and often have strange mechanics. Some introduced new design space that would later become more widely used, tribal, enchantment creatures, colored artifacts, planeswalkers, chroma, filter lands and delve for example. Epochrasite enters the battlefield with three +1/+1 counters on it if you didn't cast it from your hand. When Epochrasite dies, exile it with three time counters on it and it gains suspend. (At the beginning of your upkeep, remove a time counter. When the last is removed, cast this card without paying its mana cost.
